Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Hitt Hosting SE, pricing, security, migration, and technical capabilities.

Getting Started

What is Hitt Hosting SE?

Hitt Hosting SE is a multi-vertical mission engineering workspace. It ships with four live methodology packs — SMAD (aerospace), DoD 5000.02 + JCIDS (defense), NERC + IEEE (energy / grid), and INCOSE V (generic systems engineering) — plus a MedDevice pack (IEC 62304 / ISO 14971) on the 2026 roadmap. It connects requirements management, risk registers, budgets, phase-gate tracking, compliance matrices, and 100+ engineering calculators in one platform, with phases and gates pre-seeded from the pack you pick for each project.

How long does it take to get started?

About 10 minutes. Sign up, explore the pre-loaded sample mission, then create your own mission and import requirements from CSV. A guided walkthrough is available if you want a hands-on demo with your own data.

Do I need IT approval to start a pilot?

No. The cloud version runs on US-based hosting with a SOC 2 Type II audit in progress (Q2 2026). No software to install. For programs with stricter requirements, we offer a self-hosted deployment that runs entirely on your infrastructure.

Can my whole team use it during the pilot?

Yes. The 30-day pilot includes full platform access for your entire team. Invite colleagues from the Settings page and assign mission roles so everyone has the right level of access.

Is there a sample mission I can explore?

Yes. Every new account is seeded with a sample project in each of the five methodology packs — a LEO Earth observation mission (SMAD), a tactical UAS program (DoD 5000), a Class II infusion pump (IEC 62304), a 50 MW solar + BESS interconnect (NERC / IEEE 1547), and a generic INCOSE V program. Each sample has pre-loaded requirements, risks, budgets (where applicable), and phase/milestone progress.

Pricing & Plans

How much does Hitt Hosting SE cost?

Starter is $14.99/month per user for individuals. Pro is $39/month per user for teams with collaboration features. Enterprise pricing is available on request for programs needing advanced features, priority support, and custom deployment options.

Is the 30-day pilot really free?

Yes. No credit card required. Full platform access. Export everything if you decide it is not for you. No data is deleted if you need more time to decide.

What happens after the pilot ends?

You choose a plan that fits your team. Your data and configuration are preserved. If you need more time, just let us know. We would rather you evaluate thoroughly than rush a decision.

Do you offer academic or government pricing?

Yes. University teams and government programs can contact us for special pricing. We want Hitt Hosting SE accessible to student CubeSat teams and SETA groups supporting government missions.

Security & Compliance

Is Hitt Hosting SE ITAR compliant?

The self-hosted deployment runs entirely on your infrastructure with zero external network calls, making it suitable for ITAR programs. The cloud version uses US-based hosting. Classification tagging and access controls help enforce ITAR handling requirements. The customer is ultimately responsible for ITAR compliance within their organization.

Can it handle CUI data?

Yes. Hitt Hosting SE supports CUI category markings (CUI//SP-EXPT, CUI//SP-CTI, etc.) on mission data. Markings flow through to all generated deliverables and exports. The self-hosted deployment with air-gap support is recommended for CUI programs.

How is my data encrypted?

All data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS 1.2+. Database connections use SSL. Backups are encrypted. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt.

Who can access my mission data?

Only members of your organization with the appropriate role. Hitt Hosting SE uses row-level security in the database, meaning queries physically cannot return data belonging to another organization. 12 mission-level roles with a granular capability matrix control what each user can see and edit.

Do you have a SOC 2 report?

Our cloud infrastructure is aligned with SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria for security, availability, and confidentiality. We are happy to walk through our security posture with your compliance team.

Migration & Integration

Can I import requirements from DOORS?

Yes. Export your DOORS module to CSV and import directly into Hitt Hosting SE. Parent-child relationships are preserved and the L1/L2/L3 hierarchy is built automatically. We also support direct paste for smaller requirement sets.

Can I export all my data?

Yes. Every table in Hitt Hosting SE supports CSV export. Requirements, risks, verifications, budgets, and phase gates can all be exported at any time. PDF export is available for phase gate review packages. Your data is always yours.

Does it integrate with JIRA or other tools?

Hitt Hosting SE is designed as a self-contained mission engineering workspace rather than an ALM integration layer. For programs that need JIRA integration, we recommend using Hitt Hosting SE for mission engineering and exporting deliverables for downstream tracking.

Can I migrate from Excel spreadsheets?

Yes. CSV import handles requirements, risks, and budget items from existing spreadsheets. The most common migration path is exporting your Excel sheets to CSV and importing them into Hitt Hosting SE with column mapping.

Technical

What deployment options are available?

Two options. Cloud deployment runs on Vercel and Supabase with no infrastructure to manage. Self-hosted deployment uses Docker Compose on your own servers with a self-hosted Supabase instance. The self-hosted option supports full air-gap operation.

How does air-gap deployment work?

The self-hosted deployment has zero external dependencies. No CDN calls, no analytics, no third-party fonts, no license phone-home. Deploy with Docker Compose. Updates are delivered as signed archive files transferred through approved media.

Do the engineering calculators work offline?

Yes. All 50+ engineering calculators run client-side in the browser with no server round-trips. Orbit analysis, link budgets, mass calculations, and all other calculators work identically whether online or in an air-gapped environment.

What browsers are supported?

Hitt Hosting SE supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. The portal is a single-page application optimized for desktop use. Mobile browsers work but the interface is designed for larger screens.

Is there an API?

Hitt Hosting SE includes a REST API for all mission data. The API uses the same authentication and role-based access controls as the web interface. API documentation is available to Enterprise plan users.

Methodology

Which methodology packs does Hitt Hosting SE support?

Five packs are bundled. SMAD (Space Mission Analysis and Design) for aerospace — 8 phases (Concept → Closeout) with SRR/SDR/PDR/CDR/TRR/FRR/ORR/DR gates. DoD 5000.02 for defense acquisition — MDD → MSA → MS A → MS B → MS C → FRP → IOC → FOC. IEC 62304 for medical device software — Planning → Requirements → Architecture → Detailed Design → Implementation → Integration → System Test → Release → Post-Market Surveillance. NERC CIP / IEEE 1547 for energy & grid — Concept → Interconnect Study → Design → Reliability → Build → Commissioning → COD / Operations. INCOSE V-Model for generic systems engineering — Needs → Requirements → Architecture → Design → Analysis → Implementation → IV&V → Transition. Each pack pre-seeds phases, gate checklists, deliverable templates, and terminology.

How do I pick the right pack for my project?

Pack is chosen per-project (per-mission), not per-account. Pick the pack that matches your regulator and reviewer: aerospace/SMAD if you cross an SRR/PDR/CDR gate; DoD 5000 if your program has an MDA and milestone reviews; IEC 62304 if you generate a DHF for FDA 510(k) / PMA; NERC/IEEE 1547 if you file an interconnection study; INCOSE V for internal industrial SE with no external regulator. Mixed portfolios are fully supported — one company can run aerospace, defense, and medical projects side-by-side.

Is Hitt Hosting SE affiliated with the SMAD textbook?

No. Hitt Hosting SE is not affiliated with or endorsed by the authors of the SMAD textbook series. The aerospace pack implements the methodology described in those textbooks as a software tool for practicing mission engineers; the other four packs implement their respective public standards (DoDI 5000.02, IEC 62304, NERC CIP / IEEE 1547, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288).

What phases and gates does each pack cover?

Aerospace/SMAD: 8 phases, 8 gates (SRR/SDR/PDR/CDR/TRR/FRR/ORR/DR). Defense/DoD 5000: 8 milestones (MDD, MSA, MS A, MS B, MS C, FRP, IOC, FOC). Medical/IEC 62304: 9 lifecycle stages with a separate Software Safety Class A/B/C designation driving documentation depth. Energy: 7 phases ending in Commercial Operation Date (COD). Generic/INCOSE V: 8 V-model positions from Needs through Transition. Gate checklists are pre-seeded from each pack and are fully editable per project.

How many engineering calculators are included, and which packs use them?

Over 50 calculators total. The orbital, spacecraft-sizing, link-budget, and thermal calculators are aerospace-specific and only appear on missions using the SMAD pack. Cross-pack tools (requirements quality, risk scoring, compliance matrix, earned value, change control, RBAC) work identically across all five packs. Pack-specific tools for defense (CDRL generator, TEMP sections), medical (DHF table-of-contents, SOUP register), and energy (POI single-line, IEEE 1547 commissioning checklist) appear only when those packs are active.
